I have already lost touch with a couple of people I used to be.–Joan Didion
Women evolve.
Our bodies, minds, roles, and priorities shift as we experience various seasons of life.
Sometimes, it’s a relief to let go of old versions of ourselves. You know those cute shoes you bought that look great but create massive blisters and make your feet hurt for two days after you wear them? Identities that no longer align with who you’ve become can feel like that.
But that’s not always easy to let go of the past. Sometimes you miss who you were before marriage or children or the job you thought would be everything you dreamed of.
But therapy can help you ditch those old shoes – all those old stories you keep telling yourself that no longer feel true.
Sometimes, it’s hard to know where to start!
The road to therapy is often circuitous, and you usually start down the path after months (or years!) of feeling like something is missing.
I know that sharing your story can feel overwhelming. And it’s a lot to trust someone with.
But when you don’t have that trust and make that first move…
Nothing changes… and your life gets stuck in lather, rinse, and repeat.
You’re here because you want results.
And you’ve come to the right place!
After all, if you could have done this on your own, wouldn’t you have already done it by now?
So…
Step away from your secret snack stash.
Set down the glass of wine that has become all too comfortable in your hand.
Put away the phone you’ve been doom-scrolling on while “trying to get to sleep.”
Let’s turn away from the occasional indulgences that have become the mainstay of your survival kit.
Therapy is a dedicated time and space for YOU.
Our work together is collaborative, but it’s not about offering “advice,” and it’s absolutely not about passing judgment.
In this office, there are no clipboards for secret notetaking or power suits.
And, contrary to what you may have seen on TV, there are no padded rooms or straight jackets, either!
Yes, I have glasses that occasionally get pushed around my nose, but that’s only because these readers came free with the aging process!
It’s about empathy, compassion, and reflection.
We’ll identify and resolve trauma from your past (and everybody has some trauma because life is hard).
We look at the sources of anxiety in your life and find ways to reduce them.
We’ll create the kind of space you need to literally and figuratively let your hair down, have a cup of tea, and know that you are heard.
About me
What led me to become a therapist…
It all goes back to a wonderful counselor I had back in my early 20s.
This kind soul saw me walking toward what I thought was a carnival and gently taught me about “red flags.”
I have had several career paths, but nothing has felt as right to me as being a therapist.
Some of my professional background…
I have a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Houston and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University.
I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR), and Motivational Interviewing.
When I’m not in the office…
I enjoy spending time with my three sons.
I also love martial arts and reading.
And tacos because… well, come on… they’re tacos!
